Soundlings
Collective, 2011-2016
Soundlings was a sound art collective I co-founded with Tijs Ham. But describing it as just a collective undersells what it actually was - it was also a community, a platform, and a recurring gathering of curious people who wanted to think out loud together.
The Think Tank Meetups were the heartbeat of it. Monthly discussions - open, informal, free - on topics across music, art, sound, culture and technology. Topics ranged from "the part-time artist" to "specialising yourself while maintaining a broad view" to investigations into headphone-based listening. Started with only a couple people figuring out what a think tank should even be. Eventually ran 21+ sessions, streamed online for people who couldn't make it in person.
Beyond the meetups we had the pleasure of participating and or putting together workshops, performances, residencies, collaborations, installations.
Some of the works I made under Soundlings include _dewPoint, [I Am] Floating in a Room, contributions to Labyrinth Psychotica, and the Songline Soundwalk at Oortreders Festival / Klankenbos with Mark IJzerman, Roald van Dillewijn, Tijs Ham and Robin Koek.
The website is gone - a hosting disaster took it. These notes are an attempt to document what existed before it disappears further into the internet's general amnesia.
