Future of the Lab
Collaborative album, 2011
Recorded at STEIM, Amsterdam
An experiment in collaborative improv album-making. A number of musicians from different cultural backgrounds - Turkey, Holland, America, Greece, Germany, Japan - and different styles - rock, pop, Americana, experimental electro, art-punk, big-band, classical, free jazz - spent two days locked up at STEIM, Amsterdam's experimental music and sound art center, to create a concept album.
The concept was based on writings predicting the future roles of media labs in a world of increasingly affordable technology and abundant online knowledge sharing.
The music came from the collision of all those people, styles and ideas in a room together for 48 hours.
Concepted, organized by Jonathan Reus. Many thanks.
